Elegancy101 Special: The Ultimate Affordable "Spring Look" Makeover

Don't you think that Spring is a natural time for renewal and rebirth. I must say that I have been a rut for a while when it comes to makeup. It seems easier to try new looks when we get ready for a night out or get dressed up for a party, but your "everyday" look needs freshening every once in a while. So I decided to get a spring look "makeover" done by makeup artist Sheila Tjon a Koy who specifically uses low budget makeup for a polished look without it costing a pretty penny. As you may know, not everyone is able to spend huge amounts for every moisturizer, powder compact, lipstick and other beauty products that is sold in today's market.

My makeup makeover for my everyday look was pretty simple. Fairly nude cheeks, slightly darkened brows, nude (brown/bronze) eyeshadow with a touch of pink eyeshadow on the eyelids. Sheila lined my eyes with a black gel liner and topped my face of with a peach blush.

For the lips, Sheila used a rose pencil to outline and then applied a pink lipstick from Fogan Cosmetics that turned my lips into a lovely rose color. I must say that the lipstick was really hydrating and the color was great.

Some makeup tips I managed to catch up:

- Concealer is the secret to achieving a flawless complexion. Don’t forget to use it under the eyes to get rid of dark rings.
- Foundation should look like your skin. Try and try again until you find the right tone.
- Powder can make your skin look dry. Use crème foundation to make skin glow.
- Beware of bronzers that look too orangey or too brown. They make the skin look unclean.
- Don’t oversize the lips with lipstick. It makes them look unnatural. If you have thin lips, use light not dark shades.
- Lipstick and blush should work together, so stick with the same shade. Blush should be the shade you would be if you’ve just had a good workout.
- Upper eyeliner should be thicker than the lower line, otherwise it makes you look tired.
- Don’t forget eyebrows, they are the frame of the face. Use eyeshadow to accentuate them, not liner as that makes them look tattooed.
- Keep lip gloss on hand. It works day and night.
