Healthy Accessorize: Loom bands Good Or Bad For The Environment?

Loom bands are all the rage, boys and girls are spending hours weaving them into everything from bracelets to skipping ropes. Loom bands are fun because you can make amazing designs and the good part is that you can get more advanced and start making designs out of this world. They even called loom bands an "educational toy" that is becoming increasingly popular especially among the youth. But are loom bands really that safe for your environment.
 

Some schools have started banning loom bands for various reasons, including playground fights, mess and them even being used as weapons. A mother has warned other parents of the dangers posed by loom bands after her son was blinded by one. Her eldest son accidentally got a rubber band fired one in his Kyle’s eye.

Leading the campaign is the Ecowaste Coalition, who said the small, colorful rubber band components of the toy is a choking hazard for young children and pets. In the US, there has been a case where a pet had to be operated upon because of this, so it can also happen here because of the toy's popularity.

The activists have pointed to air and water pollution from the production process, leading the industry to initiate a voluntary sustainability certification program.
