DJ Beverly Bond and BET Networks teamed up again to shoot the second annual Black Girls Rock! awards show.
Named for the non-profit youth empowerment and mentoring organization of the same name, Black Girls Rock! is dedicated to honoring exceptional women of color around the world who serve as inspirational and positive role models.
This year, the show honored political activist and scholar Angela Davis, gospel singer Shirley Caesar, Academy Award-winning actress Taraji P. Henson, WNBA president Laurel J. Richie, actress Tatyana Ali and directors of the Rebecca Project For Human Rights Imani Walker and Malika Saada Saar. The all-female ensemble of performers at the ceremony included Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Melanie Fiona, Mary Mary, Elle Varner and Shirley Caesar.
Supermodel Alek Wek, reality star La La Anthony, actresses Tichina Arnold and Sharon Leal served as presents alongside co-hosts Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King.
