IAMISIGO spring/summer 2012 collection
The collection for the Spring/Summer 2012 iamISIGO brand is called CXX, CXX is the Roman numeral representation of the number 70, and the S/S 2012 iamISIGO collection is a 70s inspired collection with little twists here and there. We focused on soft tailoring for this collection, with vibrant colours like yellow, poppy, grass, ink and the ever present black.
Established in 2009 and starting off as a small independent company based in Ghana and Nigeria, the iamISIGO clothing label seeks to create a striking awareness of how African culture can be fused with western designs around the world. Many of its concepts are based on the designer, Bubu Ogisi’s eccentric sense of style and her unique ability to mix various trends. Read our interview with the designer here
Each design has a story behind it along with a concept that was created for it to come to life. The iamISIGO design aesthetic qualities are used to improve the marketability of the outfits: the smoothness, shininess/reflectivity, texture, pattern, curviness, color, simplicity, naturalness, and modernism all go into consideration.
The iamISIGO client is eager to be different.
"The collection was inspired by the fact that my favorite decade was the 70s. The 70s was filled with fun, color and playfulness with the flared pants, circle shades and short mini dresses, all of which I missed out on, so for my 5th collection I finally decided to bring the 70s back in my own way with all the colour and craziness but giving it that African edge. This collection was sponsored by Vlisco and released in October 2011, at the MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week."
The MTN LFDW awards aims to promote the development, growth and promotion of creative’s in the industry by nurturing, fine tuning and harnessing their skills as well as providing them with a solid platform for achieving their goals.
This year, they had twelve finalists who showed their latest designs with the use of Vlisco Dutch Wax. A bit restrictive, but not at all for these young creative talented designers scouted via various auditions across Nigeria.
