Event: Kinks, Curles and Cupcakes - Natural Hair 101 Workshop

We recently attended a natural hair workshop called Kinks, Curles and Cupcakes in The Hague, The Netherlands. They were educating and empowering people to experience only the best in natural hair care and styling techniques. This workshop was recommended for those who are looking to learn and improve on techniques for servicing and styling natural hair. We learned proper, damage-free techniques for combing natural hair and product information was also been taught. We had a blast and we learned a lot of very interesting hair care tips. More after the jump:

Dominique Snip, owner of the product line
Sheado for frizzy and curly hair, was inspired by her audience to organize a Natural Hair 101 seminar that’s called Kinks, Curls & Cupcakes. She gave us some vital tips for the best hair care treatements like:

Don't use too many different types of products in your hair.
There are a lot of alcohol in those products. They are used in products to make them dry faster, alcohol can cause your hair to lose much of its shine and strip color from the hair. Your best solution is to deep condition your hair and stay away from products containing alcohol for a few weeks. Just like drinking too much can cause your system to feel awful, too much alcohol in your hair products can make your hair dehydrated and dry.

Divide your hair into 4-6 sections before threating it with a shampoo or conditioner:
Dividing your hair is simply a concentrated method used to distribute product throughout the hair so that each and every strand of hair is coated with that shampoo/conditioner. You can simply use your hands, a comb or brush to evenly distribute product and smooth your natural hair during the dividing method. Always start with the first section of hair and finger part a small section of hair.

While combing your hair – begin at the ends:
If you have excessively curly hair, use a wide toothed comb. Start combing your hair from the ends and gradually move to the roots. This reduces the risk of breakage and does not cause too much pain when combing.

Use a micro fibre towel to dry your hair:
This avoids shedding of the hair and a super absorbent “towel” soaks up the water from thirsty hair in no time.

Sheado products are natural based hair products for the natural hair. Their products consist of:

Shea Butter:
Shea Butter is a good natural conditioner for hair. Shea butter is great for softening hard brittle hair. It’s an excellent moisturizer, and therefore offers that advantage for dried as well as fragile curly hair. Shea butter is believed to have a low amount but sufficient SPF to protect your hair against the damage from ultra violet rays of the sun. This is definitely beneficial for processed or color treated hair.

Honey:
Today, the uses for honey are very popular in many natural hair care products for various exciting reasons. Honey can benefit naturally curly, kinky and wavy hair because it contains so many fabulous properties including. Natural humectant properties: helps attract and retain moisture (remember curlies need moisture the most) and also conditions the hair leaving it soft and shiny.

Green Tea:
Green Tea is wonderful for combating hair loss due to it containing EGCG. The researchers working in this field have identified the green tea as a healthy product for hair care. The consumption of this tea on a regular basis ensures the obstruction of the manufacturing of the hormones responsible for the thin hair. These hormones are often known as DHT which means dihydrotestosterone. The intake of green tea is a natural way to fight the hair related problems. The ability of this medicinal tea to stop the production of the above mentioned hormones is one of the greatest green tea benefits. Hence this herbal tea can be observed as a boon for bald people or everyone in general.
