Try a Trend: Men With Skirts

One of the more surprising trends to emerge from the Men’s Spring-Summer 2012 runway shows that just ended in Paris, skirts. And also from the looks of Kanye West and A$AP Rocky’s closet, skirts and dresses are the new skinny jeans. Designers like Givenchy, Ricardo Tisci, Yohji Yamamoto and Thom Browne all featured men skirts in their collections.

During the Paris fashionweek long, short, narrow, baggy, pleated, fringed — they came in all shapes and styles. Most seemed like a provocation or statement.

Ancient Hebrew, Greek, and Roman men generally wore some form of tunic. Ancient Egyptians wore a wrap skirt, similar to sarongs. Both the Anglo-Saxons and Normans wore skirted garments, as can be seen in the Bayeux Tapestry. These fashions continued well into the Middle Ages and of course now in today's fashion.
All the diverse cast of models, from beefy, bearded blokes to fresh-faced youth to small, wise-looking elders — looked supremely confident and comfortable in their baggy, samurai skirts and wide, pleated culottes that looked like skirts.
This might seem like a good look if the men style it well! What do you think? Can men give this trend a go?

  2. Depend on who wears it. Skirts have more elegance than pants for men.

  3. I support this allll the way. I even have my own little way of fashioning some of my shirts into a skit like garment
