Reppin Africa: Gbemi By Alice Oluyitan
We got a new Nigerian/London based designer Reppin Africa and Elegancy101 is starting to love her style already! Alice Oluyitan a London based designer who recently graduated from the University of Brighton. She studied fashion design with Business studies and has interned for Matthew Williamson.
GEMBI (the G is silent) is the name of her fashion brand and her recent collection takes inspiration from colour psychology, art , sportswear, tents, 1950s outerwear and product design (LOVE). Garments are made to embody a techni-coloured, recreational pleasure Dome, an oversized home full of happiness and fun. Each garment is made with beauty and simplicity. The designs combine extreme shapes with juxtapositions of vivid and muted colour ways making the collection experimental, unconventional but still
very wearable and contemporary.
Anita is really inspired by colour, especially colour created by light, she is also inspired by music, poetry, the future and moments of joy. More tangible inspirations come from growing up in east London- and loving sports/streetwear. In the next few months she will be working on her next collection and blogging about this as well as her inspirations. You can check out her journey on her blog www.gbemiloves.co.uk

ReplyDeletePastel colours are in, and this is a good mix. Except in reality and all honesty I doubt any of us would be wearing this. As it is shapeless, unflattering and a lil granny ish. But I must say at least it shows the creativity of the designer! Well done and I look forward to seeing whatelse she'll do!
