Makeup Beauty: The BB Cream Revolution - The Benefits For Women Of Color!

You've probably heard or came across the words "BB cream." The craze over this multi-tasking product (short for "beauty balm" or "blemish balm") claims to out skin tone, reduce redness and oiliness and guard against harmful UV rays. But like many of the foundations, concealers and powders on the market there are not a lot of BB creams for dark girls. This got us wondering what the BB cream actually does for our skin? How does the cream benefit women of color?

Ever wondered what common skin care issues women of color experience that BB creams can tackle? Women of color frequently complain about dark spots left on their skin after a pimple goes away and uneven skin tone. The sunscreens in BB cream that provides high levels of sun protection prevents dark spots from getting darker and contribute to a more even skin tone.

Women with skin of color rarely think that sunscreen is necessary. But we all know that under our underwear, we are a different color. The main ingredient in BB creams that can benefit darker skin complexions is sunscreen. The Light-refracting ingredients, such as pearl powder, silicas, and dimethicone inside the BB-cream actually helps light bounce off the skin.

There you have it, sunscreen is a very essential ingredient for dark skin. If you want to choose a BB cream that is right for you don't forget to get a sample before you make a purchase. After that you should check how it looks in both artificial and natural lighting.
A few warnings before using BB creams;

- BB creams generally give light coverage and it is good for a natural look. However, they may not offer adequate coverage for red lesions. Many women use them as primers for their foundation.

- And while some products advertise the ability to “regenerate” the skin, through research we know that retinoids (vitamin A) are the best ingredient to do this, BB creams do not include these.

Brands like Smashbox, Maybelline and Garnier sell BB creams in all skin tones including dark, brown and caramel colors.
