Isaiah Mustafa, the guy from the Old spice commercial (yes the man with the funny voice riding on a horse) struck some nerves recently when he was interviewed on the red carpet. During a red carpet interview for “E” Isiah was asked if he could describe his ideal mate. He stated that he’d prefer someone who is athletic, honest and has “good hair”. When asked if prefers real over fake hair, Isiah replied, “Yes, I do prefer real hair. I want my kids to have nice hair, not nappy hair.
When I read this interview I started to have mixed feelings. On one hand I am a Black women and my hair gets nappy so when all Black man, whose hair also gets nappy, claims that I am not good enough for him due to my nappiness, it keeps me wondering. It makes me wonder how often he looks in the mirror and if there are any hate issues going on?
On the other hand, I think that everyone should have their own preferences and opinion no matter how they view others. However I would date anyone as long as he haves a good personality. I might be overreacting but my point is, at what point do we stop caring about the preferences that some Black men have of not dating Black women. Should we be insulted or should we consider that everyone has their right to have a preference? Even if we disagree. What is your opinion?
(PS: Isaiah Mustafa later issued an apology via his Twitter)
No wonder he dont like girls with nappy hair. Isiah is dating a white women LOL
ReplyDeletehahahaah funny , everybody should have ther own opinion
ReplyDeleteI stoped wondering what black men want along time ago!
ReplyDeleteA man should not be concerned about my hair. I do whatever I want with my hair I have had my hair weaved, braided, fried , dyed and laid to the side but have never had a man have a "problem" with my hair.
ReplyDeletea woman shouldn't alter her self esteem because her baller friend has self loathing issues.
