Beauty: Swallowable Perfume

Photobucket
The perfume pill? It seems like there's a pill for everything these days including, but not limited to anti-aging, sunblock and grey hair. Not surprisingly, it appears as if the future holds for a pill-only beauty routine too. No, this isn’t a marketing ploy for smelly, sweaty gyms; in fact, the makers of Swallowable Perfume are attempting to change the way we smell — from the inside out. Netherlands-based artist Lucy McCrae teamed up with a synthetic biologist to create a perfume pill that actually turns your sweat into a fragrance.

"Swallowable Perfume is essentially a capsule containing synthetic fragrant lipid molecules that mimic the structure of the fat molecules naturally found in the body. When those lipids get metabolized by the body's enzymes, fragrant molecules are released and excreted through the skin's surface through perspiration. The strength of the resulting scent is determined by the individual's acclimatization to temperature, stress, exercise, or sexual arousal."

So forget spritzing scent over your wrists or neck, you could soon be popping a pill that delivers fragrance directly into the body, turning your skin into an ‘atomiser’!
The downside? You’ll have no idea what the fragrance will be like until you pop your pill — and if you don’t like it, you’re stuck with it for as long as it takes to work its way out of your system. Although the pill is still in development, the idea is not as far-fetched as you might think.

Edible fragrances — such as Deo Perfume Candy, which apparently makes your skin smell like roses — are already on the market in Europe, while cosmetics giant L’Oreal is working on a hair-colour pill that will counter grey hair and an SPF pill is currently in research, too.
Now, if they could just come up with a pill to erase body fat, my daily digestible beauty regime would be complete! What are your thoughts?

  1. This is totally possible, I took peppermint oil for ages for IBS and I smelled of peppermint after a couple of weeks, even my breath was minty all the time. It was great! And it helped the IBS, but not as much as quitting my job did.

  2. Alternatively, swallow some real perfume and get drunk in the process.

  3. But will it work for me, I don't sweat much for a fat lass?

  5. Quite a revolting thought. Is it being marketed to people who avoid the shower?

  6. I don't know if I would want to swallow anything like this, especially as it would have to be on the market for many years before anyone would know if there were any rare but nasty side-effects

  7. @Rose It was Cachet by Prince Matchabelli-only bought it once and didn't know what all the hype was about.Never used it after that as there were better smelling perfumes. I'm not sold on the idea of ingesting perfume though, I'm sure there must be some medical side effect.
