Beauty: Why Tattoos Can be Bad for your Skin

Photobucket
If youre thinking about getting a tattoo just like your favorite celebrity, think carefully. Tattoos are permanent and can only be removed through painful laser treatments, which can cost thousands of dollars and take several tries to completely remove the ink. If you still want to move ahead, know the risks. Below are five of the ways tattoos can be bad for your skin and health.

1. Infections - Perhaps the most dangerous risk of getting tattoos are the risks associated with the equipment used to create it. A needle like device is used for tattoos and if not maintained properly, can transmit a whole host of infections from hepatitis to HIV.

2. Skin infections – Because tattoos can often break the skin, they can bring about skin infections. This is why it is so important to keep fresh tattoos covered and use skin disinfectant as needed. If you have redness, swelling, or pus around your tattoos, it could be the sign of a skin infection.

3. Allergic reactions – There are many things people can be allergic to from dust to pollen to nuts. However, there is a segment of the population who can be allergic to the dyes used in tattoos. Always test for an allergic reaction before having the dye permanently put into your skin.

4. Granulomas – This is the name those tiny bumps on skin can go by. They can also be
contracted by those who have tattoos, especially in those who have red dye tattoos.
In addition to granulomas, an overgrowth of scar tissue called keloids can form around tattoos.

5. Scarring – If the tattoo artist has a slip of the needle, chances are you could be left with a permanent scar. Because even the most talented artist can mess up every now and then, it is still important to consider the possibility of scarring before getting a tattoo.
