1. In the summer, women tend to over-wash and over-exfoliate. This is because your skin feels oilier because of the humidity and you’re sweating more. However, when you overcleanse, you strip your skin of a protective barrier of essential oils. The areas that need oil, like the t-zone, will actually overproduce oil to compensate, and your skin will become unbalanced. Women should cleanse about two times a day – in the morning and evening. Make sure you’re removing all traces of makeup. Exfoliate about once or twice a week.
2. Most people do not use enough SPF, which is crucial in protecting your skin from the sun! The SPF content is only indicative of how long the SPF will last, but not the degree of protection. For example, SPF45 protects for about two hours, so you have to re-apply constantly. Use SPF all the time, all over your body. Also, don’t sit in the sun and bake. Avoid the sun as much as you can, but if you can’t (or don’t want to), at least make sure you’re taking regular breaks where you are indoors.
3. Most women do not get enough professional treatments done on their skin. Skincare professionals use necessary active ingredients at much higher concentrations than at-home products, that are often significantly diluted. There’s also a big difference in standing in front of the mirror for a few minutes every day to getting hands-on, in-depth, spa treatments. During the summer, the skin naturally receives lots of Vitamin D. But, like the rest of your body, it gets dehydrated much more quickly and causes splotches and dry spots at random, so your skin gets easily stressed. This is why your treatments should change according to season.
