Shoe Scare: A 3-D Scan Reveals Foot Damage by High Heels

While there is an established connection between high heels and foot pain, this is the first time the effect of shoes on feet can be seen in real time. For the first time in the United Kingdom, specialists at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in North London, England, are using new technology to view the foot and ankle in 3-D. They hope the PedCAT 3-D scanner will transform the treatment of foot and ankle problems often caused by wearing high heels.
As told by consultant orthopedic surgeon Andy Goldberg, “When you’re in heels your entire body weight is going through the two tiny little bones going under the big toe, which can clearly lead to problems.” Watch video below:

Goldberg agreed that a ban on high heels is not ideal. To avoid major foot pain and damage in the future,  Goldberg suggested wearing heels in moderation. “Wearing a platform or a wedge is going to be a much better heel,”Goldberg  said. ”It is more substantial on the sole of the foot.”

“You think we can ever stop women from wearing high heels?” Goldberg asked. That is a good question!

Although heels look very sexy on ladies, it amazes me that women need a 3D scanner to know that high heels screw up their feet! We don't know how to get women to stop it. But should we?

  1. I would prefer to tackle this issue not just by recommending a product/stretch, but to try and know the source and help further.
