Elegancy101 Special: African Fashion Week showcase - SS14 London Fashion Week

Happy thursday readers! We we're present at the Fashion Finest - African Fashion Week showcase for SS14 London Fashion Week at The Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) is a collaborative fashion exhibition, highlighting the industry's premier African prints and designers. It also celebrates London’s unique and diverse cultural heritage, topped with the flamboyant mixing of Western and African culture through fashion at the same time promoting Africa’s rich ethnic culture and interpreting it into comtemporary designs. Read more about our journey after the jump:
The runways featured designs from countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Congo, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Kenya but also from the diaspora, including Britain and the Caribbean.

There is a growing interest in African designs, but many of the continent's promising talents still find it difficult to break into the mainstream international shows. That is why African Fashion Week is a chance to shine on the international stage.

I must say that it is moving to see all the African designers showcasing their designs despite the existing challenges, such as frequent power cuts, no financial support from anywhere. Luckily African Fashion Week offers them an affordable platform to showcase their talents to the world.
I caught a few snaps of my outfit for the day rocking Demanso Design green lace blouse by Deborah Akua Manso and a beautiful Mala classic bib necklace  from Lady Africa by Christie Brown.
We personally loved all these looks. We have seen very modern with traditional patterns. Do you like it as well?

About our favorite designers - DeManso fashion  was started in 2010 by a young lady named Deborah (Akua) Manso. She started this clothing company because she loves fashion and she wanted to show the whole world that we all have a top model and top designer in us. She wasn’t afraid to show her talent to the world and she hopes that she can inspire others also to show their talents. she also want to inspire young designer in Holland. Lady Africa  imports creative and qualitatively strong African labels and follows African fashion trends closely. Lady Africa’s creative engine is Irene Hin, who herself has both African and Dutch roots. She wants to bridge the gap between the two fashion continents, which have more in common than is often thought. When travelling in Africa she discovered a whole scala of idiosyncratic designs, gorgeous fabrics and original, independent labels: too beautiful not to share with the rest of the world.
