Health News: Tony Edwards Writes Book 'The Good News About Booze'...

It sounds too good to be true. But former BBC TV science producer Tony Edwards just wrote a book drawing on a wealth of medical evidence, that says alcohol is good for your health. Does that mean that drinking doesn't make you fat at all?
Anyone who’s ever gone on a diet is told to lay off the booze because it’s high in calories. I've been told that a glass of wine contains as many calories as a slice of cake.

So you may be surprised to learn that there’s no scientific evidence whatsoever to support the idea that alcohol makes you put on weight. Alcohol certainly contains lots of calories. But the curious fact remains that alcohol isn’t fattening. Here are some evidence of recent studies that demonstrate that alcohol doesn't cause weight gain:

-A six-year study of 43,500 people by the University of Denmark. Key findings: teetotalers and infrequent drinkers ended up with the biggest waistlines, daily drinkers had the smallest.

-An eight-year study of 49,300 women by University College Medical School, London. Key findings: women who drank below 30 grams a day (around two medium glasses of wine) were up to 24 per cent less likely to put on weight than teetotallers.

-A ten-year study of 7,230 people by the U.S. National Center for Disease Control. Key findings: drinkers gained less weight than non-drinkers. Alcohol intake did not increase the risk of obesity.

British science writer Tony Edwards claims there’s no scientific evidence whatsoever to support the idea that drinking alcohol makes you put on weight.

My take: First study said alcohol prevents alzheimers so I took it up, last week's study said alcohol increases blood pressure so I went on the wagon but after hearing this study I'm going off the wagon and gonna hit it hard tonight!
